According to The Great American Sermon Survey, Protestant and Catholic churchgoers agree: the component of the Sunday service that has the most impact on their spiritual life is the sermon.

But preachers don’t need a survey to know how important their work is. And because they know how much their people expect of them, most preachers are eager to grow in their homiletic skills. Even the best preachers—perhaps especially the best—know that there is always room for improvement.
